Colin Cooke
Principal Design Engineer
What are your main responsibilities?
I'm responsible for developing new ideas, solving customer-specific application problems and overseeing the technical content of contracts. I've also been working on pre-engineering a standard range for our popular VX hoists with the aim of making them more competitive.
What's your career been like to date?
I've always been involved in engineering. I started from school in the motor trade and then, via an engineering apprenticeship and HND, gained a degree from Manchester Metropolitan University. I've been responsible for design and development of gearboxes for commercial and military vehicles – mostly for the US based international engineering giant Eaton Corporation and a smaller bespoke gearbox manufacturer, Webster Drives Ltd.
What do you like most about working for Street?
The interesting and wide variety of the work along with the excellent products and working for a good name in the crane industry. There is a real buzz around the company that really underlines the can do approach to business. I also get a lot of satisfaction in optimising performance so that things work better. There are real breakthrough moments, but mostly it is the small detail improvements that add up to make products more efficient and durable.
